Alice Hirsch-Fruijtier, born on April 7, 1956, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, passed away peacefully on December 1 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She lived a rich and fulfilling life, by her dedication to her family, her career, and her community.
Alice had a multifaceted career, serving as a Ship Stewart for a chemical shipping vessel. Her professional life was coupled with a profound passion for mentoring autistic children, showcasing her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. She also proudly served in the Dutch Army for four years, where she worked as a driving instructor, demonstrating her leadership and expertise.
A true lover of life, Alice embraced a wide array of interests and hobbies. She had a talent for cooking, traveling the world, and capturing moments through her photography. Her craftiness was evident in her love for knitting and cross-stitching, activities that brought her joy and allowed her to create beautiful pieces for her family and friends.
Alice was known for her welcoming personality; she never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on those who knew her. She cherished her family deeply, and her pride in her loved ones was evident in everything she did.
Her proudest accomplishments included rescuing animals, as illustrated by her backyard, lovingly transformed into an animal rescue sanctuary. This act of kindness reflected her nurturing spirit and her commitment to the welfare of all living things.
Alice is survived by her husband of 13 years, Joe Hirsch; her sister, Letty Hatfield-Fruijtier (Harry Hatfield); her brother, Gerke de Boer (Yvonne Wittebrood); her other loving sisters, Anja (Jos van Putten) de Boer and Petra (Paul Reijven) de Boer; the one she considered her sister, Teresa Graham; the one she called her son, Corey McCants; and several nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Corneille Antoine Fruijtier and Arnolda Wilhelmina Theodora (Bol) Fruijtier, who laid the foundation for Alice’s loving and spirited life.
In honor of Alice's life, a viewing will be held on December 7, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM, both taking place at Newcomer Funeral Home, 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227. Pastor John W. Woodall Jr. of South Calvary Missionary Baptist Church will be officiating Alice's service In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Alice memory to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation located at 6520 N.
