Indianapolis - Ila Jean Atkinson, 93, passed away peacefully Friday January 4, 2019.
Ila Jean was born January 30, 1925 in Matthews, IN. After her mother's death in 1931, when Ila Jean was just six years old, she and her five siblings went to live at the Soldiers & Sailors Children's Home in Knightstown, IN where they were raised. She married Orville Lee Atkinson in 1944. They had two children, Anna Rue Atkinson and Kathy Marie Atkinson.
Ila Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; her daughter, Anna; and all five of her siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Marie Atkinson; granddaughters: Mauria Ann Lummis, Clarissa Dawn Yarbrough and Soraya Lynn Trauner; great grandchildren: Nate Lummis, Brandy Gillet, Justin Lummis, Nikki Naylor , Megan Lummis, Brittany Yarbrough, Cody Lummis, Melissa Lummis ,Cassidy Lummis; 12 great-great grandsons; 8 great-great granddaughters; and many other loving family members and friends.
Ila Jean's family will receive friends Thursday, January 10, 2019, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A celebration of her life will follow at 7 pm. A committal service will be conducted privately at Matthews I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Matthews, IN.
