Herbert L. Thompson

Herbert L. Thompson, age 86 of Indianapolis passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born February 4, 1937 in Elkview, West Virginia the son of William H. and Stella (Paxton) Thompson. Herbert worked for over 45 years at Lau Industries where he was a set up man for manufacturing. He married the love of his life Hazel Mae Barker and they shared over 47 years of marriage together until her passing in 2020. Herbert enjoyed playing golf, watching horse racing and NASCAR. He was a true pool shark when it came to playing pool as he was nearly unbeatable. Herbert had a special companion in his dog Max, who never left his side even in his final days.

Herbert is survived by 3 daughters, Virginia Hamilton, Betsy (husband Dana) Townsend and Lona (husband Robert) Taylor; 2 sons, Dusty (wife Hillary) Thompson and Jesse (wife Sherri) Kelley; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Herbert is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel Thompson; daughter, Brenda Harte; and son-in-law, Glenn Hamilton.

Herbert's wishes were to be cremated and buried at a later date. Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions in Indianapolis, Indiana is honored to handle Herbert's cremation arrangements.
