Herbert N. Salyer, known as "Bert," graced our world with his presence from August 18, 1934, until March 28, 2025. Born in the picturesque town of Chillicothe, Ohio, Bert's journey through life was marked by a vibrant spirit and a quick wit that endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Bert's academic pursuit began at Fairborn High School, where he laid the groundwork for a life dedicated to knowledge and learning. This intellectual journey continued at the University of Arizona, where he further honed his skills, ultimately carving out a successful career as an accountant. His professional life was a testament to diligence and expertise, detailed with numbers yet imbued with the warmth of his character.
A proud veteran, he served in the United States Army, reflecting his unwavering commitment to the principles he valued. After his honorable discharge, Bert continued to embody the values of service and dedication throughout his life.
In the realm of family, Bert's proudest accomplishment came on a memorable August day in 1959, when he married the love of his life, Pamela R. Kutchmarek. Together, they built a family filled with love and cherished memories. Though Pamela preceded him in death, her spirit continues to resonate in the lives of those she touched, including their children: Melanie L. Salyer, Blaine H. Salyer, and Michael E. Salyer. Bert is also survived by his brother, John David "JD" Salyer, his sister-in-law Joanie Salyer, and daughter-in-law Elke Salyer. The legacy of his love extends to his grandchildren, Elena Salyer and Kenneth Salyer, who undoubtedly carry forward the values and laughter that Bert instilled in his family.
Bert was a man of many interests and passions. He enjoyed playing bridge, fiercely engaging in friendly competitions that showcased his sharp intellect. He found solace and excitement in watching sports, traveling to new destinations, and camping under the stars, relishing time spent in the embrace of nature. His enthusiasm for learning knew no bounds, as he eagerly embraced the world of computers, always seeking to expand his horizons.
Despite the passage of time, Bert’s fondness for chocolate candy remained a sweet delight throughout his life, a simple pleasure that perfectly matched his joyous spirit.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nora "Kaye" Preis, his sister Nancy Salyer, and his beloved son Kenton Salyer. These losses weighed heavily, yet they were met with a resilience that characterized his approach to life’s challenges, reinforcing the love that encompassed his family.
As we take a moment to celebrate the life of Herbert N. Salyer, we remember a man whose laughter, wisdom, and abundant love shaped the lives of many. His presence will be profoundly missed, yet his legacy will thrive within the hearts of his family and friends, an enduring testament to the rich life he led.
