Indianapolis - Harley William “Bill” Ramsey, 81, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024. He was born August 18, 1942 in Indianapolis to the late Donald and Nellie Parris Ramsey. Bill graduated from Emmerich Manual High School in 1961. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy where he served on the USS Bainbridge during Viet Nam. He was a part of the first nuclear task force to circle the earth twice.
Bill married Shirley K. Emery on October 12, 1967 at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA. He graduated from Grace Bible College with a bachelor’s degree in theology in 1985. Bill enjoyed reading and studying God’s word. He loved spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great grandchildren. But more than anything else, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and he wanted others to know Christ as their Savior too.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Donald P. Ramsey; mother, Nellie Winifred Ramsey; brother, Donald A. “Bud” Ramsey; and grandson, Jacob T. Morris. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Shirley K. Ramsey; daughters, Tammy Morris and her husband, Tim and Toni Alonzo and her husband, Ron; siblings: Ruth Helen Voils, Paul Ramsey and his wife, Sandee and Rebecca Streetman and her husband, Greg; grandchildren: Anna Sachak, Michael Alonzo, Amanda Alonzo, Jonathan Alonzo and Hannah Wolthuis and her husband, Andrew; 6 great grandchildren; and many other loving family members and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, Bill's family requests that memorial contributions be made, in his memory, to Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center.
