Indianapolis

Glenn Claude Herndon, born on June 7, 1938, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on January 29, 2025, in Greenwood, Indiana. He was a cherished member of his family.

Glenn dedicated thirty years of his career to Allison Transmission, retiring at the early age of 54. His contributions extended beyond his role as an employee; he organized the company softball league and served as the scorekeeper for several years, fostering a sense of camaraderie among his colleagues.

Glenn grew up near Riverside Park in Indianapolis and was a proud graduate of Tech High School. He possessed a remarkable intellect, particularly in mathematics, and was renowned for his incredible memory. Just weeks prior to his passing, Glenn was able to recall everything from detailed childhood memories to the phone numbers of family and friends.

Glenn's personality shone brightly through his witty sense of humor, which made him beloved by many. A man with varied interests, he possessed artistic talent in drawing and had a passion for a wide range of music, particularly admiring the work of Neil Young. Glenn was also deeply interested in politics, often engaging in spirited debates and firmly standing by his beliefs. A sports enthusiast, he played tennis daily, and played basketball and golf in his younger years. He loved watching and talking about sports and held the steadfast belief that Michael Jordan was the best of all time. As a coffee lover, he particularly enjoyed Starbucks, which was a small indulgence he truly appreciated.

Glenn was honored to serve in the Army Reserves, an experience that contributed to his character and sense of duty.

His proudest accomplishments included being a father to his three children: Gretchen (Kenny) Gillum, Lisa (Andy) Fox, and Greg (Heidi) Herndon. Glenn was also a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren: Nicolas, Claudia, Owen, Diego, Hugo, and Ethan; and his great-grandchild, Santiago, who brought him immense joy.

In the years prior to his passing, Glenn was supported by wonderful caregivers whom he regarded as family. Their compassion and dedication were deeply appreciated during this time.

He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Herndon; his mother, Faye Herndon; his stepmother, Chris Herndon; and his sister, Barbara.

Glenn Claude Herndon has left behind a legacy that will be remembered through the love of his family and friends, and the indelible mark he left on all who had the privilege to know him.
