George Leland Hewitt

Indianapolis - George Leland Hewitt, 74, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022. He was born February 4, 1948 in Versailles, IN to the late Ruby George and Juanita Jean Cooper. He served his community as a tow truck driver. George enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching wrestling. Additionally, he loved Elvis, Diet Coke and small motor repair, not necessarily in that order.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby George and Juanita Jean Cooper and his brothers, Paul Yager and Darrell Hewitt. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley J. Collins Hewitt; children: Lonnie Hewitt and his wife, Sonya, Ronnie Hewitt and his wife, Angie, George Hewitt and his wife, Rachel and Gloria Cain; sisters: Debra Collins and her husband, John, Sherry Ferrell, Denise Moore, Amy Lester and her husband, Aaron and Julie Williams; brother: James Yager; granddaughters: Lena, Kimberly and Hannah; grandsons: Anthony, Patrick, Ashton, Jesse and Jacob; and great-granddaughters, Skye and Lyla.

George's family will receive friends Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 11 am – 1 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A celebration of his life will follow at 1 pm. A committal service will be conducted at Washington Park East Cemetery.
