Frank Robert “Bob” Montgomery entered this life on March 19, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late James Robert Norrell Montgomery and Lora (Bell) Williams Montgomery Murray. Bob was raised in Lockefield Gardens historic district during the Jim Crow era when racial segregation was legalized.
He was inducted into the United States Air Force on April 21, 1954 and worked as a Ground Radio Operator overseas in Germany during the Korean Conflict. While serving, Bob received the National Defense Service Medal and Army Occupation Medal before he was honorably discharged on August 8, 1957 while stationed at Manhattan Beach Air Force Base in Brooklyn, New York.
Bob attended Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He received a Master's Degree from Pueblo Community College in El Paso, Colorado. Professionally, Bob was self-employed and owned & operated over 10 businesses throughout his life. The most notable, J and R, an antique furniture shop in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bob provided numerous jobs for neighborhoods from the Eastside to the Westside of town. His last store front was located on 28th and Capital Avenue where he cemented close friendships. Bob was fortunate to help friends and associates develop businesses of their own.
Bob was united in marriage on January 19, 1970 to Angela Francine Baxter in Roanoke, Virginia. She sadly passed away on September 2, 1990. Eventually, he met his long-term partner, Regina Parrish. Bob was a beloved husband, companion, father, brother, cousin and uncle to many. He put his family first in all things and in all ways. Bob was the picture of sacrifice for family! He was a man of honor and never quit. Bob always stood by the term “paying your dues”. He held his self-accountable for his mistakes and never made excuses for his deeds.
Bob received Jesus Christ into is heart in 2023. After he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior, confessed his sins and was granted forgiveness from our Lord, God almighty. Bob went peacefully to heaven at age 86, on Monday, January 8, 2023 at his residence in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Jaquiline “Jackie” Middlebrooks; son-in-law, Gary Morse; brother, Virgil Williams; and Step-father, Fred Murray. Bob is survived by his companion of 35 years, Regina Parrish; children: Lowayne (Montgomery) Morse, Joyce Denise Montgomery, Lowayne Arlene (Montgomery) Brown & her husband Leroy, James Robert Montgomery & his wife Lisa, Steve Sheppard & his wife Renika, Aaron Parrish, Regina “Gigi” Nelson, Michael Montgomery and Antionette Appleton, sister, Loyce “Peggy” Arlene Williams; sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Dowen; 25 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
