Florence Estelle Gay

Florence Estelle Gay, "Grandmommie", "Hun/Honey", "Grandma" and "Nanny", age 85 of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born February 9, 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky the daughter of William and Sarah (Franklin) Metcalf. Florence attended John Marshall High School in Kentucky. For over 20 years, she worked in food service at the American States Cafeteria. Florence loved to take long drives, which would usually involve stops at yard sales, flea markets and her favorite stores. She had her favorite items that she always looked for, consisting of floor lamps, crockpots and purses. Florence enjoyed going fishing, playing bingo and getting her fresh perm. She loved to be on the go and explore new things whether it be taking the long way to her destination on old country roads, visiting cemeteries or picking new random restaurants to eat at. When she would go to cemeteries she would bring beautiful floral arrangements that she made, to place on loved ones graves. More than anything, Florence will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Florence is survived by 3 daughters, Cindy (James) Jefferson, Becky Shelley and Kathy (Walter) Brown; sister, Carolyn Krieger; brother, Michael (Judy) Metcalf; 6 grandchildren, Kristina, Kevin, Jennifer, Sarah, Christopher and Amber; 12 great-grandchildren, Kalab, Karrissa, Jasmin, P.J., Jasann, Emerson, Dana, Zeke, Emily, Christopher, Jakala and Jamaya; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Alexander, Stacie, Jasper, Onyx and Adriana; 5 nephews, Justin, William, Eddie, Dean and Terry; 3 nieces, Debbie (Tommy), Nicole and Janet; 2 great nieces and nephews, Kenny and Tommy; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Florence is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Jeannie Buchanan.

Florence's wishes were to be cremated and have no formal services. Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions is honored to handle Florence's arrangements.
