Father Alankeith Coyner

April 13, 1939 — March 27, 2020

Greenwood-Father Alan Keith Coyner, 80, passed away, Friday, March 27, 2020. He was born April 13, 1939 in Dugger, IN to the late Lloyd B. and Edna Jane Steiner Coyner. Keith graduated in 1960 from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree and then in 1967 from Indiana State University with a master's degree. He was employed by Shelbyville High School and then Pike High School where he served as an English teacher.

Keith left teaching in 1983 and went to Seminary where he received his license in Theology. He became a deacon in the Anglican Catholic Church in 1984 and was ordained as a priest in 1985. He began his ministry as rector of St. Paul's Anglican Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MI then went on to St. Francis Assisi in Harvard, MI. He was then called to St. Andrew's Anglican Catholic Church in Franklin, IN. He went briefly to St. Edward the Confessor in Indianapolis, but then returned to St. Andrew's in Franklin where he spent the rest of his career.

Keith was an ethical and moral person. His religious values contributed to everything he did. His devotion to his family, friends and parishioners was his main focus in life. Keith was always proud of the accomplishments of his children and was always there to help and provide his sage advice.
One of his greatest loves was his grandchildren. The grandchildren spent many days with him and their grandmother during vacations and summers. Keith loved to take trips with his family. He was always looking for the next great trip to enjoy as a family and as always to educate where he could. In the past few years, they took trips to Florida, Arizona, South Dakota and Wyoming. His family enjoyed those times together and will cherish those memories. Father Keith will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and friend with a passion to help guide all to the light of Christ.

Father Keith was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara K. Junken Coyner; father, Lloyd B. Coyner; mother, Edna Jane Steiner Coyner and brother, Karl D. Coyner. He is survived by his son, Kevin Alan Junken Coyner and his wife, Jessica Ann Harlemert Coyner; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Dorothea Buitendyk and her husband, Randall Jay Buitendyk; grandchildren: Monica Kay Allman, Ella Marie Coyner, Elisha Lynn Buitendyk, Melissa Jane Buitendyk, Landon Michael Coyner, Rowan Ann Coyner and the blessing of another grandson on the way.
