INDIANAPOLIS - Faith Darlene Hollowell, 60, affectionately known by those who loved her as Darlene, departed this life Monday, September 5, 2022 at Franciscan Hospice House. She entered into life on November 13, 1961 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Nolan Hollowell and Gracie (Davie) Sanders. She was also daughter to Crisley Sanders. She attended Indianapolis Public School #41 and Crispus Attucks High School.
Darlene professed a hope in Christ at an early age. On April 16, 2014 she was baptized and joined New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church. Darlene was employed in the hospitality industry where she served for years as a housekeeper at the Columbia Club Hotel and various other hotels in Indianapolis. After becoming ill, she devoted her time to her family and helped raise her grandchildren.
Darlene loved her family immensely. She always had a smile and a laugh for anyone who crossed her path. She had a habit of giving her friends and family members fun nicknames that always suited their personalities. When she called them by their nickname, it always made them smile. Even in her years of illness, she never complained. She always found a way to seek out the positive in every situation. She truly lived up to her first name, "Faith".
Darlene loved cooking. She began cooking at an early age and often helped her mother prepare food for the family. She loved frying chicken and making popcorn. She also enjoyed watching various cooking shows.
She never met a stranger, and her home was open to anyone who needed a meal. Darlene's hobbies included playing Bingo, watching gameshows on TV, working crossword puzzles and playing the lottery. She loved listening to old school music and attending family gatherings.
In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her son, Tyresse Hollowell; grandson, Massiah Garrett; sister, Alease Sanders; and brother, Allan Keith Hollowell. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Shaunta McCloud, LaToya McCloud, Kevin Byrd, Herman Hollowell, Christine Hollowell and Christopher Iacovacci; siblings: Jackie Sanders, Christine Sanders, Diana Sanders, Terry Hollowell, Vanessa (Mitchell) Phelps, Stacy (Tiesha) Hollowell, Tracy (Tammy) Hollowell, Reginald Jones and Nolan Hollowell Jr.; grandchildren: DaQuan (Sabrina) Terry, Antonio Terry, Alexia McCloud, Jasmine McCloud, Louis Terry Jr., Jayson Terry, Tyler Black, Nathan Black, Janovah Garrett, Kayleigh Black, Izayiah McCloud, Zuri Garrett, Alani Garrett, Zayla Hollowell, Zion Marshall and Trevor Black; great granddaughter, Yuea Grant; step-mother, Essie Hollowell; and a host of nieces and nephews. Darlene will never be forgotten.
Darlene's friends and family may visit from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jonathan Crenshaw of New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church officiating. A repast will follow at Bethel Park Community Center, 2850 Bethel Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46203.
