Ervin A. Van Meter

Ervin "Allen" Van Meter, age 73 of Indianapolis went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis following complications from Covid-19. He was born April 8, 1949 in Bowling Green, Kentucky the son of Ervin A. and Lottie Van Meter. Allen was a 1967 graduate of Washington High School in Indianapolis. He retired as an inspector for General Motors. Allen married the love of his life, Pamela Dallas on August 18, 1972 at her grandparents' house in Indianapolis. Allen was a member of Indian Creek Christian Church. He was a true sports fan and especially loved to watch his Indianapolis Colts, Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Purdue Boilermakers. Allen enjoyed playing baseball and golfing. He was a member of the Auto Union and a charter member of Turner Classic Movies. Most people would not believe it but, Allen was a cast as a janitor in the movie "Hoosiers". Allen adored his cats Audrey and Thelma. He could be found in his recliner regularly with his napping buddy Thelma. Allen was a great son who stepped up to take care of his parents. More than anything, Allen will be remembered as a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather.

Allen is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Pamela Van Meter; 3 children, Kelli J. (husband Stephen) Price, Brett A. (wife Brittany) Van Meter and Andrew J. Van Meter; 4 grandchildren, Logan, Jackson, Connor and Elliot; 2 sisters-in-law, Diane (husband Dan) Quinlin and Laurie (husband Val) Galvez; and numerous cousins and extended family members. Allen is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Allen's life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 925 E. Hanna Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46227 with Pastor Robert Bradley Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in honor of Allen.
