Indianapolis - Earl "Boolie" Lewis, Jr., 89, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, September 17, 2015.
Mr. Lewis was born July 29, 1926, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the second of three children, to the late Earl Lewis, Sr. and Laura (Lathan) Lewis.
Mr. Lewis professed a hope in Christ at an early age. He joined Bridgeport Baptist Church and was a faithful member, serving as a Deacon and a member of the male chorus until he became ill. He was educated in Indianapolis Public Schools, graduating from Crispus Attucks High School. Mr. Lewis later went on to serve his country in WWII. He joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He was employed at National Starch and Chemicals for 41 years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Lewis was united in Holy Matrimony to Grace Morrison until her death in 1976. He met Barbara Ann Williams in 1997 and was united in Holy Matrimony, July 19, 2001, in Ketchikan, Alaska, extending his family. They shared 14 happy years together until God called Earl home.
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Barbara; brother, Robert Lewis of Brooklyn, NY; foster daughter, Kathy Ballard; step-son, Kenneth (Donna) Johnson Jr., step-daughter, Tamika (Dion) Meredith; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; cousins; nieces; nephews; and friends.
Mr. Lewis' family will receive friends Friday, September 25, 2015, from 10 am – 12 pm at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at 1301 North Goodlet Avenue in Indianapolis. A celebration of his life will follow at 12 pm at the Church with Pastor Ronald Covington officiating. Interment will follow at New Crown Cemetery.
