Dorothy Catherine (Schmidbauer) Reed

Indianapolis – Dorothy Catherine (Schmidbauer) Reed, 90, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023. She was born March 26, 1933 in Albany, New York to the late George Schmidbauer and Catherine (Mader) Schmidbauer. She was married to Ronald Reed on June 27, 1964.
Dorothy graduated from Albany High School in 1951. She worked in various places throughout her life including: Singer Sewing Machine, Beech Grove Railroad Shops and Loomis Armored. For many years she made hundreds of gingerbread houses to sell to pay for Christmas presents. She was involved in PTA, Scouts and helped with sports teams for her kids.
Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, reading, gardening, crossword and sudoku puzzles, cooking and baking. She will be remembered fondly for her colorfully frosted Christmas cookies. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with getting together with extended family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Matt McDermott and his wife, HuiChan Ye; Ronald David Reed and his wife, Shelly; George McDermott and his wife, Nivan; Tim Reed; Bill Reed and his partner, Kim Ford; Seana Zoderer and her husband, Carl; Justin Reed and his wife, Julie; Kati Dyer and her husband, Nate; her grandchildren: Stephanie Stockett; Sean McDermott; Chris Reed; Jessica Flick; Cassandra Reed; Ronald D. Reed II; Robby Zoderer; Jack Zoderer; Jacob Reed; Drew Reed; Mysia Dyer and Catie Reed; her great grandchildren: Ronald D. Reed III and Maddox Reed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Ronald Reed; her parents; and her sister, Jeanne Pickles.
A graveside service will be conducted at Round Hill Cemetery for the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Dorothy’s name.
