Indianapolis – Donald Allen Bourff, 86, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024. He was born April 2, 1938, in Kokomo, IN, to the late Arthur and Mary Reeder Bourff. He graduated from Western Military Academy on May 27, 1956. Upon graduation, he was appointed Brevet Second Lieutenant, unassigned, Illinois National Guard. He went on to Purdue University where he studied Agriculture for a year.
Don worked in several different fields throughout his professional career, including as an over-the-road truck driver and a security and investigations officer. He also helped operate Modern Laundry and Dry Cleaners, a family business in Kokomo, and operated his own business, Tip Top Chimney Sweep, for many years.
Don was a 32nd Degree Mason. For a time, he served as the Worshipful Master of Naphtali Lodge No. 389 in Center, IN, where he remained an active member. Additionally, he was a member of the Murat Temple and the National Chimney Sweep Guild.
Don also had many hobbies throughout his life. He loved spending time outdoors and participating in activities like beekeeping and gardening. Over the years, he often canned or froze a lot of the vegetables and fruits he had grown. He enjoyed fishing, particularly with his sons and grandsons. He also loved browsing through hardware stores looking at all the different tools and gadgets.
His family described Don as a talker. He loved to be around people, such as at the Fourth of July parties he would often host for family and friends. He enjoyed reminiscing and telling stories about the many interesting memories he made throughout his life.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Reeder Bourff; brother, Dan Bourff; and sister, Joan Nolen. He is survived by his children, Randy Bourff and his wife, Kim, John Bourff and his wife, Lynn, Sheryl Bourff, and Michelle Van Schyndle and her husband, Mark; sister-in-law, Barbara Bourff; grandchildren, Zack White and his wife, Kayla, Elizabeth Bourff, Tyler Ritchie, Ashlee Mabe and her husband, Greg, Austin Bourff and his wife, Elaina, Andrew Bourff, Alayna Bourff, Camden Bourff, and Logan Van Schyndle; great-grandchildren, Laney, Grayson, Cohen, Westen, and Emerson; and many other beloved family members and dear friends.
