Indianapolis – Dennis Victor Hommel, 70, passed away at 9:14 a.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on November 27, 1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana to John R. and Louise J. (Kern) Hommel.
Dennis graduated from Center Grove High School, class of 1969. He joined the United State Marine Corps in 1969 and proudly served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Private First Class. Dennis was honorably discharged in 1972 at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in Southern California. He then earned his associate's degree in restaurant and hotel management at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana around 1980. Dennis was united in marriage on October 9, 1976 to Cynthia Elizabeth "Cindy" Orris in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a devoted member of Faith Community Church. Dennis was a man of religion and he truly loved reading his bible and studying scripture. He watched a lot of Christian television and enjoyed playing games with his only son, Reid.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Cynthia Elizabeth "Cindy" Hommel; son, Reid Hommel; and brother, David Hommel and his wife, Janet. Additionally, he is survived by his nephew, Miles Hommel and niece, Kerstin Orris Blanchard. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
Dennis' family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Nanney of Faith Community Church officiating. Burial will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 734 North Morgantown Road, Greenwood, Indiana 46142. In lieu of usual remembrances, direct memorial contributions in Dennis' name to Faith Community Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
