INDIANAPOLIS – Daniel Lee Kraus, age 75, passed away at 10:52 PM on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN. He was born to the late John Edward and Ruby Pearl (Whited) Kraus on December 26, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN.
Daniel graduated from Emmerich Manual High School, class of 1965. He then honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Daniel received a National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal while serving. He was united in marriage on October 23, 1981 to Margaret Ann Winkler at the Lake of the Painted Hills in Martinsville, IN. Professionally, Daniel was a mail handler for USPS for nearly 25 years before retiring.
He enjoyed taking walks through the park and watching sports. Daniel's hobbies included golfing and bowling. He loved his family and animals. Daniel was an avid Cubs fan. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 41 years, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Kraus; his daughters, Kerri Mitchell and her husband, Kevin and Pam McClanahan and her husband, Kevin; his son, Kyle Kraus; his grandchildren: Kristin Carlisle, Ashley Myers and her husband, Joe, Bailey Mitchell, Karley Mitchell and Hailey Kraus; and his great grandson, Alexander Myers. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Kraus and Ruby Pearl Kraus.
Daniel's friends and family may visit from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Brandon Awery officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 620 West Main Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46142.
