Franklin, IN – Cathy Gale Hughes Carter, 67, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 14, 2024. She was born March 10, 1956 in Indianapolis to the late Norris and Hattie Perkins Hughes. She married Bishop Danny Carter on August 18, 1973 at Hoyt Avenue Church of God and Prophecy in Indianapolis, IN. Cathy was a homemaker and mom above everything else and she spent her life doing it well.
Cathy was passionate about playing the piano. She spent countless hours playing her cherished baby grand. She was no stranger to singing along either. When Cathy wasn’t at the piano, she was typically handwriting cards to send to family and friends (an all too forgotten art), cooking for her family or interior decorating. Often times with her mother at her side and gospel music playing in the background. She had an extensive LP record collection to choose from. It was no secret that Cathy loved Christmas enormously and always went all out around the Holidays. Cathy was an avid member of the Church of God in Franklin, IN where she loved to worship and praise.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Norris and Hattie Hughes and her brothers, Timothy and Dale Hughes. She is survived by her beloved husband, Bishop Danny Carter; sons, Chad Carter and his wife, Amanda and Ryan Carter and his wife, Rachel; brothers, Greg (Tonya) Hughes and Phillip Hughes; sister-in-law, Sheree Hughes, wife of her late brother, Timothy Hughes; aunts and uncles: Norma Ramlow, Roger (Freda) Perkins and Janice (Ronnie) Decker; grandchildren, Kelsie and Cole Carter; niece and nephews: Amanda Hughes-Wolfinbarger, Timmy K. (Gabby) Hughes and Jared Hughes.
Cathy’s family and friends remember her as caring and loving with a concern for others far greater than for herself.
