Carol Sue Atchley

August 15, 1954 — May 30, 2024

Carol Sue “Ma” (McLearran) Atchley, age 69, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024 in Indianapolis, IN. She was born on August 15, 1954 in Atlanta, IN and raised by Bedford and Doris “Big Mama” McLearran.

Carol married Roger Dale Atchley on April 15, 1972 in Celina, TN. They had two children (not including her dogs that she considered her children) and prided herself in being a mother and homemaker.

Carol was feisty and stubborn. She was lovingly bossy and dramatic and fun, but most importantly, she was loyal and compassionate and she was always there for everyone. She truly loved with all of her heart.

There were many things in life that Carol enjoyed. She enjoyed her flower garden and playing in the dirt, reading (specifically Stephen King), scrapbooking and drawing. She especially liked cooking a well-prepared meal for her entire family to eat together (but enjoyed good eating in general). Carol was happiest when she was with her friends and family and playing with her grandkids. In fact, the things Carol loved most in life was her family and her silly little dog, Cheeka. Close behind would be her coffee and cigarettes.

What you might not know is that Carol was an avid fan of Yellowstone, the Virgin River and the Orange Bowl. She enjoyed listening to Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Taylor Swift (yes, she was a Swiftie) and Adele.

As well, she was involved with the Stephen King Fan Club, Wheeler Mission and Riley Children’s Hospital.

Carol was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, sister (Shirl), son (Greg), and her beloved dog (Tinkerbell).

Carol is survived by her children, Mark Atchley, Tammy Stewart (Rob), and Cheeka (her dog); grandchildren, Mike (Kayla), Elizabeth, Anthony, Nicholas (Sophia), Matthew, and Sarah; Great Grandchildren, Leo, Benjamin, and Abraham Atchley.
