Greenwood - Bernard "Bernie" Martin, 72, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
Bernie was born March 16, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN. He was a very loving, supportive, loyal and generous man. He was a best friend to his wife of 53 years, Millie. He always made himself available to his children and grandchildren and they adored him. He attended every cross-country meet and baseball game that his grandchildren participated in. He enjoyed being around people and never met a stranger. He worked as a computer programmer for 43 years.He served in the Indiana National Guard for eight years.
Bernie enjoyed hiking trails throughout Indiana as well as the Appalachian Trail. Additionally, he loved wood working, carving and riding his bicycle. He participated in Biking Across Kansas twice and biked 558 miles each time. He enjoyed fishing and went on several fishing expeditions with his family to destinations in Canada and Minnesota. He enjoyed music and singing in the church choir. He had a strong faith and loved the Lord. While he had many interests and hobbies, more than anything else, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, Jacob, Josh, Tori, Mckenna and Madi.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Millie; sons, Steve Martin and his wife, Judy, and Jeff Martin and his wife, Meghan; sisters, Christine, Alecia and Doreen; five grandchildren; and many other loving family members and dear friends.
The Martin family will receive friends Monday, November 12, 2018, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at LifePoint Church, 8540 Combs Road, Indianapolis, IN 46237. A celebration of his life will be conducted at 1:00 pm with Pastor Jym Gregory officiating. A committal service will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 734 North Morgantown Road, Greenwood, IN 46142.
