BARBARA JEAN KOHARCHIK (nee GREEN) – Barbara J. Koharchik passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of January 12, 2022 at the age of 88. She was born on April 11, 1933 to Richard and Margaret Green in Johnstown PA the 5th of 7 children.
On August 6, 1960, she married Michael Koharchik in a small ceremony in Johnstown. From there they moved to Cleveland, OH where they lived for 7 years before continuing on to Hammond, IN where they settled in to raise their family and would remain for 48 years. Barbara spent her time caring for her family, working part time at OLPH and carting her kids to their various activities. She was a cub scout den mother for many years, an avid bowler and her children's biggest cheerleader. She loved children, so it was only natural that when hers grew older she would fill the house with friends and neighbors' children, babysitting and caring for many young ones who from the moment they entered the house became children of her heart and she would love each and every one of them like they were her own.
She is survived by her children, Richard & Michelle (nee McFerren) Koharchik of Merrillville, IN, Christine (nee Koharchik) & Jonathan Tomasic of Indianapolis, IN, Robert & Constance (nee Macy) Koharchik of Fishers, IN and Ryan & Mikayla (nee Reed) Koharchik of Zionsville, IN and her grandchildren, Kailee, Steve, Kirsten, Zach, Rachel, William, Michael, Reed & Rowan.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years Michael, her parents Richard and Margaret Green, her brothers Richard, Vernon, James, Jack and Thomas and her sister Audrey.
Per her request there will be no funeral but a celebration of life will be held later in the year. If anyone wishes to honor her memory donations can be made to the Shriners.
