Ann Brinson

Indianapolis - Ann Brinson, 87, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital where she received amazingly compassionate care. She was born September 4, 1933 in Heidelberg, Germany to the late Herbert and Lydia Jacob Ries. She met her husband, Jim, while he was serving in the US Army and stationed in Germany. They were married on April 17th and 18th (once under German law and once under American law) in 1957. Ann left her home country and moved to the United States in 1959 to be with the love of her life. She later proudly became a US citizen. In 1969, Ann gave birth to her only child, Doris.

Ann knew that family was as much about love as blood and she collected family throughout her lifetime. Among the most special to her were the children (now adults) that she babysat for many years. She loved Brieanne, Ryan, Maria and Alyssa dearly. Her favorite place, other than her home, was the Fat Cat Bar. Despite being old enough to be the mother or grandmother of many of the patrons, "Annie" became a fixture. The people there became a part of her family and she tried to remember every birthday or fix a special meal. October will not be the same without German Annie's "Oktoberfest".

Ann loved her family, particularly her daughter, and her friends. She loved to cook for people and have a good time. Ann enjoyed listening to Elvis, watching the Young and the Restless, playing cards, drinking coffee (or gin and Coke), telling amazing stories, talking on the phone for hours and taking care of her cats. She was the friend that was always there to lend a hand to help. She had a willing ear to listen, an available shoulder to cry on, or the willingness to kick a butt if it was needed. She was the best mother that anyone could have asked for. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Doris Brinson; sister, Doris Riedinger; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Brinson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
