Robert Allan Wendell

March 14, 1937 — April 9, 2023

Robert "Bob" Allan Wendell, 86 – A veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served in the Korean War.

Bob was born March 14, 1937 and went to his heavenly home on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, and great great grandpa.

Bob was a wonderful man who deeply loved his family, his church family, and just about anyone he met. He loved attending family and church events, working, Saturday night roadtrips, and making people laugh. In his younger years, he really enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. He always appreciated having a cup of coffee with a sweet snack, watching a western, and following it up with a good nap.

In September 2021, Bob was compelled to retire from FBM after 15 years due to a brain injury. He loved his job and the people he worked with. Prior to his employment at FBM, he worked at Contract Hardware for 40 years.

Bob always had the biggest smile and gave the best hugs! He always knew what to say when you needed it, especially if you were having a bad day or just needed a laugh. His presence alone was comforting. He was a huge John Wayne fan, and would watch his movies over and over– even if he had already seen it 25 times. Bob loved his coffee, ice cream with a little milk over it, Honey Nut Cheerios, and Macaroni and Cheese. HE WAS FUNNY. He was also loving, warm, caring, compassionate, and thoughtful. He was not a fan of going shopping, but he loved when Betty brought snacks home for him. Bob had an amazing work ethic and always gave 100% in everything he did.

Many have said that he was, "The greatest man [they] have ever known" or "To know him was to love him" and that "He was the meaning of love".

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 67 years (24,526 days), Betty Wendell (Gregory).

His children: Debbie (Leslie) Snider, Lynn Robinson, Cheryl Jean (Tom) Bates, Betty (Greg) Kibby, Robert "Bobby" Wendell ll, and April (Tim) Nixon.
His Granddaughter/Caregiver: Amber "Nikki" (Dustin) Welsh.

Along with 18 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren, and 8 Great, Great Grandchildren. Sibling: Betty Holder.

Bob and Betty began their family with their first child born in 1957 and today their family consists of 77 loving members.

Bob has been a faithful member of University Heights Christian Church since July 8, 2001. He loved his church so much that we ask for any monetary memorial donations be sent to: University Heights Christian Church at 4050 Shelby St. Indianapolis, Indiana 46227.
